Overview
Physicians, Nurses, and other caregivers are required to complete EPIC EHR training in June - August 2025 in order to gain EPIC access. Superuser training will be 1 to 2 months earlier. The CME and CNE credits are awarded in recognition of the learning that takes place, and is not a reward or payment for the training. The number of hours awarded may be fewer than the actual number of hours spent on training, depending on specialty. Physicians will average 4 to 8 hours depending on specialty, choosing from 70 tracks based on their primary role. Nurses will average 10 to 12 hours. IPCE will use registration and completion records from Workday (for employed) and Workday Extended (for affiliated) to obtain information for awarding credit by the end of October 2025. The formats will be blended, including online instructor-led live instruction, in-person computer lab instruction for those who need it, and subsequent in-person customization workshops.

ACCME Objectives
  1. Describe the skills needed to use the Electronic Health Record (Epic) to provide services to patients and professionals.
  2. Use the functions of Epic to review patient information, document an assessment, and plan for a patient in the clinic, hospital, or other healthcare setting.
  3. Identify the tools used to review patient information, document admission, transfer, procedures, reports, patient progress, and discharge, and manage a patient’s orders while admitted to the hospital.
  4. Explain how a patient’s record is shared throughout the healthcare system.
  5. Apply best practices on how Epic can be utilized to communicate to other caregivers and patients.
  6. Recognize capabilities within the electronic medical record for personalization and customization of various provider tools.
  7. Additional objectives determined by learner and/or supervisor, depending on 70 available provider tracks.

ANCC Learning Outcomes
  1. Nurses will self report an increase in the skills and knowledge needed to use the functions of Epic to review patient information, perform nursing charting, communicate with the interprofessional team, and manage orders.

Registration

Registration is done through Workday.
