Overview
There is a lack of standardized clinical pathways, gaps in patient support and education, and insufficient integration of evidence-based practices across the system to treat menopause. As a result, patients frequently encounter disparities in access to care, experience delays in appropriate diagnosis and treatment, and report unmet needs related to symptom management and quality-of-life support. Variation in the approach to menopause treatment leads to an increased need for care. Menopause affects over 50 million women in the U.S., with symptoms that significantly impact quality of life, productivity, and long-term health outcomes. Despite its prevalence, menopause care remains fragmented, underprioritized, and inconsistently delivered across health systems. Menopause crosses all service lines; thus, any standardized approach and providing better education will impact all care to women across the entire continuum of care.

Objectives
  1. Describe the physiologic changes of perimenopause and menopause, including hormonal fluctuations and their effects on multiple organ systems.
  2. Evaluate indications, risks, benefits, and contraindications of menopausal hormone therapy, and apply evidence based strategies to individualize treatment for menopausal symptoms.
  3. Compare nonhormonal treatment options for menopause, including pharmacologic and non pharmacologic therapies, and select appropriate options based on patient specific factors.
  4. Assess the role of testosterone therapy in women, including indications, safety considerations, and management of decreased libido.
  5. Identify and utilize effective patient education resources to support shared decision making and improve patient understanding of menopause management.
  6. Recognize and manage genitourinary syndrome of menopause and osteoporosis, incorporating screening, prevention, and treatment strategies into clinical practice.
  7. Apply evidence based strategies to support brain health and reduce risk of cognitive decline during midlife and menopause.
  8. Identify and dispel common myths related to menopause, using current evidence to address misinformation and improve patient counseling.
  9. Identify metabolic changes associated with menopause, including weight gain and body composition changes, and implement evidence based weight management strategies.
  10. Integrate multidisciplinary and patient centered approaches to deliver comprehensive, evidence based menopause care across clinical settings.
