Overview
This is an educational series for physicians, nurses, and other healthcare workers caring for patients at risk for amputations. Sessions will include didactic presentations, journal article reviews, case presentations, and group discussion.

ACCME Objectives
  1. Describe the scope and impact of limb-threatening conditions, including chronic limb-threatening ischemia (CLTI), diabetic foot disease, infection, and non-healing wounds, and their implications for patient outcomes and health systems.
  2. Identify patients at risk for limb loss by recognizing early clinical signs, comorbidities, and social determinants that contribute to delayed diagnosis and treatment.
  3. Apply evidence-based assessment strategies for limb preservation, including vascular evaluation, wound assessment, infection identification, and risk stratification.
  4. Differentiate appropriate referral pathways and timing for limb preservation interventions, including vascular, wound, podiatry, infectious disease, and hyperbaric consultation.
  5. Discuss how standardized pathways and early intervention can reduce major amputations, hospitalizations, and overall cost of care.
  6. Translate limb preservation principles into clinical practice; identify at least one actionable change to improve early identification, referral, or coordination of care within their practice setting.

ANCC Learning Outcomes
  1. Learners will self report an increase in knowledge and confidence of current best practices in complex wound and limb management, such as referral of care, infection control, advanced wound therapies, and adjunctive treatments.
  2. No less than 120 days after the identification of the change intervention, learners will self-report on the progress made on the actionable item to improve early risk identification, timely escalation or referral, patient education, or coordination of care across the continuum.
