Overview
The purposes of PEM Topics RSS are to improve the PEM learner's abilities as a clinician and medical educator, to teach concepts regarding administration, quality/research, team dynamics, procedural skills and the psychosocial aspects of medicine. All of these in an effort to provide great care for children in the emergency department.

Objectives
  1. Describe approaches to diagnosis and management for a variety of clinical scenarios in PEM
  2. Demonstrate strategies to improve skills as a PEM medical educator, both as a clinical bedside teacher and as a presenter for group sessions
  3. Discuss concepts related to common PEM administrative issues, including medical liability, healthcare finance, academic administration, and career development
  4. Integrate strategies that address psychosocial aspects of PEM, not only for patient care, but also to address healthcare provider self-care and well-being.
  5. Describe concepts and tools to initiate and maintain successful quality/healthcare improvement projects
  6. Review recent studies in literature pertinent to pediatric emergency medicine
  7. Discuss how chosen studies may influence decision making in the ED setting
  8. Analyze the strengths and weaknesses of each study and discuss similar/future studies
  9. Discuss how to ask and answer clinical questions through research design and critical review of the literature
  10. Review information and practice simulation for a variety of procedures performed in PEM
  11. Apply various approaches to a variety of critical clinical scenarios in PEM using crisis resource management principles
