Overview
The 2023 Pediatric Asthma Update is based on the 2020 NHLBI guidelines and updates to the pediatric asthma care process model. It defines the roles and responsibilities of the interprofessional team. The update describes the activities of patient and provider education, medication management, teaching about triggers, asthma action plans and asthma control.

ACCME Objectives
  1. Describe the updates to pediatric asthma care using respiratory tools and resources
  2. Discuss updates to the pediatric asthma care process model and tools to operationalize the 2020 NHLBI guidelines
  3. Evaluate pediatric asthma guidelines and recommend implementation strategies and referrals to Pulmonology services
  4. Define opportunities for pediatric asthma quality improvement in the emergency department
  5. Describe improvement projects for pediatric asthma patients in the pediatric intensive care unit
  6. Discuss case studies where the use of Tele-medicine has improved patient experience
  7. Evaluate pediatric asthma data for opportunities for improvement in asthma care
  8. Describe the nurse's role in implementing the new pediatric asthma guidelines

ANCC Learning Outcomes
  1. Participants will self-report one change they will make to their practice or performance as a result of this educational event
  2. Participants will self-report an increase in their knowledge regarding the new guidelines for asthma care in the pediatric patient
