Overview

FAQ:

4 book syllabus will ship USPS Priority shipping with tracking.

Registration will close at Noon MST on Friday, 9/4/20.

You must be present during the streaming event to receive credit and access to the Core Curriculum website.

Registrants will be assigned a user name and password for access to the CORE Curriculum website and along with other details in a pre-conference email sent two weeks prior to the conference.

The virtual course will be held in a streaming video format of all lectures over a 3 1/2 day time frame beginning on Saturday morning, September 12. The prerecorded lectures will run from  8:00am to 5:00pm MST on Saturday, Sunday and Monday; the lectures will conclude at 12:10pm MST on Tuesday. As with the live course, short breaks will be built into the presentation schedule.  One of the course directors will be online during the lecture presentations to answer chat questions and feedback.

In addition, we will collect data about participant virtual attendance to the streaming lectures and use of the online materials. This data will be anonymized and used for our ongoing research into web-based resident education. You will need to sign consent to allow your individual data to be collected for this research.

Website Access:  2020 conference registrants will have access to the 2019 videos following the 2020 video streaming conference, as long as registrants take the pre-test, participate in all 3 1/2 days of the 2020 streaming conference (attendance monitored and recorded), and will have continued access as long as registrants complete the midterm test in November.  If registrants do not complete the midterm, they will lose access to the site and its content.

Objectives

Additional Information

We regret that the events of the pandemic will not allow us to hold this year's course live in Salt Lake City. However, we remain committed to helping new graduates in cardiovascular and thoracic surgery prepare for the American Board of Thoracic Surgery examinations. Therefore, we will be providing last year's course in a virtual fashion on September 12-15 using a modified format.  The virtual course will be held in a streaming video format of all lectures over a 3 1/2 day time frame beginning on Saturday morning, September 12. The prerecorded lectures will run from 8:00am to 5:00pm on Saturday, Sunday and Monday; the lectures will conclude at 12:10 on Tuesday. As with the live course, short breaks will be built into the presentation schedule. One of the course directors will be online during the lecture presentations to answer chat questions and feedback. The small nominal registration fee will cover the cost of printing and shipping the syllabus. After confirmation of registration, you will be granted access to the online pretest beginning on Monday, September 7. In order to attend the course you must complete this pretest before the streaming lectures begin on Saturday, September 12. At the conclusion of the virtual lectures on Tuesday, September 15, you will have access to all of the online lectures through the CORE website per stipulations below.  On Monday, November 2, an online posttest will be made available. Both tests are designed to help you recognize gaps in knowledge that need focused study. In order to have continued access to the online material through June 2021, you must complete the posttest by Monday, November 9. Completion of both tests is an important method for us to identify areas where the course material needs enhancement. In addition, we will collect data about participant virtual "attendance" to the streaming lectures and use of the online materials. This data will be anonymized and used for our ongoing research into web-based resident education. You will need to sign consent to allow your individual data to be collected for this research. We look forward to hosting you at this year's virtual course. We appreciate your understanding with the challenges that we all face in adapting the course material as well as your willingness to participate in our research efforts to continually improve our teaching materials.

Website Access:  2020 conference registrants will have access to 2019 videos following the 2020 video streaming conference, as long as registrants take the pre-test, participate in all 3 1/2 days of the 2020 streaming conference (attendance monitored and recorded), and will have continued access as long as registrants complete the midterm test in November.  If registrants do not complete the midterm,  they will lose access to the site and its content.
