Dr. Leslie P. Wong is Senior Medical Director of Intermountain Kidney Services and Nephrology, and Interim Senior Medical Director of Intermountain Medical Specialties, overseeing multiple service lines including nephrology, allergy and immunology, dermatology, endocrinology and diabetes, infectious diseases, rheumatology, sleep medicine, thrombosis and anticoagulation, and LGBTQ care.

He is a graduate of the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School.  He completed his residency and fellowship training at the University of North Carolina, where he was chief resident.  He started his career in private practice in Seattle, where he was Medical Director of Peritoneal Dialysis at Northwest Kidney CentersHe then became Satellite Healthcare’s Vice President of Clinical Affairs, leading quality, medical director education, and on faculty at the Stanford Palo Alto VA. 

Dr. Wong next joined Cleveland Clinic as Vice-Chairman of Nephrology and Hypertension with emphasis on Clinical Transformation and Director of DialysisAfter completing a healthcare MBA, he was appointed to a leadership role in value-based care as Associate Medical Director of the Cleveland Clinic ACO. Working closely with primary care, he helped create a CKD medical neighborhood, an electronic CKD registry, and a high-risk ACO care coordination program for late-stage CKD patients to promote optimal starts.

Following the Advancing American Kidney Health executive order, Dr. Wong became Chief Medical Officer of DaVita’s Nephrology Care Alliance (NCA) to help nephrologists to succeed in new value-based payment models and better manage CKD.  At NCA, he led an organization of over 1700 independent nephrologists and experienced nephrology leaders from diverse practice settings across the U.S. Dr. Wong helped designed the clinical rationale and performance measures for DaVita’s outcomes-based incentive and shared savings programs across Medicare and commercial risk contracts. He joined Intermountain in July 2022.

Professionally, he is a nationally recognized nephrology educator and speaker and promoted to Associate Professor at Case Western Reserve University. He is a past member of the ASN Dialysis Advisory Group and Chair of Quality Improvement and Education for Nephrologists Transforming Dialysis Safety (NTDS)Dr. Wong is currently part of the ASN Diabetic Kidney Disease Collaborative and serves on the Excellence in Patient Care Committee, helping oversee ASN’s clinical initiatives.
