Scott M. Stevens, M.D., M.A.C.P., R.R.C.P., F.C.C.P. is Senior Medical Director for the Medical Specialties Clinical Program at Intermountain Healthcare.  The clinical program serves as an organizational home for nine medical specialties that works to identify, define and implement best care practices across the entire Intermountain system with the goal of achieving the best possible outcomes for patients at the lowest appropriate cost.

Dr. Stevens is also active as a clinician and researcher.  He founded and is Co-Director of the Thrombosis Clinic at Intermountain Medical Center.  This service was established in 2004 and is one of the few clinical services in the state of Utah dedicated to the management of patients with Venous Thrombosis.  Dr. Stevens and the Thrombosis Clinic team provide evaluation and management of complex thrombosis cases in both the outpatient and inpatient settingsHe also co-directs the Thrombosis Research Group at Intermountain Medical Center in which role he has served as principle investigator for numerous clinical trials, and has more than 140 publications in the field of thrombosis and anticoagulation.  Dr. Stevens has served on the steering committees for the National Institutes of Health-sponsored COAG and GIFT Trials, and the Canadian Institutes of Health Research’s DODS clinical trials.  He has served as a reviewer for the National Heart Lung and Blood Institute and the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke. 

Dr. Stevens has worked to develop several national and international practice guidelines.  He served as the lead author for the guidance for the evaluation and treatment of hereditary and acquired thrombophilia section of the 2016 Clinical Guidance from the Anticoagulation Forum. He also served as a panelist for the Antithrombotic Therapy and Prevention of Thrombosis, 9th edition: American College of Chest Physicians Evidence-Based Clinical Practice Guidelines; the 2016 Antithrombotic Therapy for VTE Disease: CHEST Guideline and Expert Panel Report and presently serves as the panel co-Chair for the forthcoming update from CHEST.
